Bella Freud’s home is a top-lit haven, built within a landlocked site that was once a mishmash of post-war lean-tos and workshops. Strong colours, patterned reclaimed materials, vintage pieces, along with Bella’s iconic style, combine to create a playful, cinematic home.

Fabricated from steelwork and timber, the new structure is designed to be future-proof, ready to accommodate an additional floor if desired. An internal courtyard, encircled by windows salvaged from Battersea Power Station, is bathed in natural light from above.

The kitchen joinery blends geometric parquetry with reclaimed iroko worktops. Bird’s-eye maple, rescued from an office demolition, adorns the wardrobes in the dressing room, while glass panels salvaged from Unilever House twinkle in the bathroom, reflecting the striking patterns of the salvaged marble floor.
